Sound of Silence

Hear my words that I might teach you, take my arms that I might reach you...

This line from the classic song The Sound of Silence has always echoed in my mind. It speaks of the longing to be understood, the desire to connect, and the pain of unspoken truths. Sometimes, silence is louder than words—it holds meaning, waiting to be heard.

Over time, I’ve noticed that I tend to speak in a more figurative way. My thoughts are often shaped by things I’ve read in books, blogs, or articles, and by lessons I’ve gathered from my personal experiences. These insights have made me more reflective, more poetic even, in the way I express myself.

There are moments when my mind feels full—thoughts swirling around, ideas waiting to be spoken. When I don’t let them out, they stay with me, especially at night. I find myself lying awake, thinking about advice I wanted to give, but held back. Not because I didn’t care, but because the thought wasn’t complete yet.

Sometimes, I even forget where I first heard or read a particular idea. And because I value giving truth-based advice, I hesitate to share it unless I’m sure of its source. Still, I try my best to speak from the heart, hoping the other person would still catch what I mean.

I’ve learned that one of the most effective ways I retain lessons is by sharing them. When I read something impactful, I don’t just keep it to myself. I find ways to weave it into conversations or apply it in real life. It’s like testing the wisdom, watching how it works in real situations.

It doesn’t need to be perfect. What matters more is the act of practicing what I’ve learned. I believe that when we turn learning into action, it stays with us much longer. We understand it not just in the mind but also through the heart, and sometimes even through the body.

There’s science behind this too. Our brains remember things more effectively when connected to physical experience. That’s why a certain song, smell, or image can instantly bring back old memories. Our senses become the storage for emotions, memories, and life lessons.

This is why I believe silence isn't always empty. Sometimes, it holds deep thoughts, meaningful lessons, and unfinished stories. Silence can also be a space where we process, reflect, and prepare to speak with wisdom—not just noise.

So even when I seem quiet, know that my mind is active. My silence often carries love, concern, and the hope to say the right thing at the right time. It’s in these moments of stillness that I learn the value of listening more than speaking.

In the end, the sound of silence teaches us that not all messages are loud. Some are gentle, thoughtful, and slow. And those are often the ones that touch the heart the most.
